THE SKINNY: Where does SMALLVILLE go from here after the events of an action-packed Season Nine? Well, this being confirmed the final season of the show, lots of interesting things may be happening according to those at the Comic-Con press conference promoting the show.
Here’s what we found out (spoilers ahead):
The first thing that showrunner, writer and producer Kelly Souders says about the 10th and final season of SMALLVILLE is they want to bring back as many people as possible. That includes Kristen Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum.
In fact, she and her other showrunner Brian Robbins both say that the door is wide open for Rosenbaum to return and would do anything to make it happen. That’s some bold words and obviously want to give fans the right way to end the show. They would also like to see Lionel Luthor again and Brainiac.
As this is the final season, they want to do iconic moments, pay homage to some of the scenes from Superman lore. One of these moments they already dropped a bomb on – Clark will catch the Daily Planet globe at some point this year – one of the iconic images from the Superman comics.
They also informed us that Clark will get a brand new suit by episode two and it will brighter, lighter and ease his transition into Superman.
“The focus is on ending the SMALLVILLE and Superman story and going out on top,” Robbins says.
Souders goes on to say that “At the end of last season he wasn’t superman, he was a loner. Now it is about getting into that moment and changes into Superman.”
As far as villains go, Darkseid will be the main baddie but other villains will also be involved including the Suicide Squad. So expect to see Rick Flag, Deadshot and Plasmus at some point this season.
As far as Darkseid goes, they won’t be doing what they have done with past villains and will develop the character much differently. How they will do that is a mystery.

“He’s in this season but he is not sure if he is dead, or a vision, or a memory,” Schneider says. “He isn’t sure if Clark is even aware that he is even there. I think Jonathan Kent is the only force in Clark’s life that is telling him he is OK to be Superman and fulfill the destiny they talked about as a child. Where he said ‘You are what’s right with this world.’”
